So, there is a wedding being planned and I am on a mission.  I'm on the hunt for the perfect necklace.  It's been decided that I will just wear a black dress....so, that means only one thing in my world...an excuse to buy an amazing new pair of ridiculous shoes and jewelery that would make the Queen Mother go "Ooh, la la."  I thought about wearing my necklace from my wedding, but I think it's a bit too small and I'm thinking this is my opportunity to go OBNOXIOUS!   Below is my wedding necklace....

See....too small.  Maybe I go with something like this Vera Wang number and then but out the color in my shoes...

I love this Kenneth Jay Lane piece, but for $795, it needs to come with someone who will help me put it on, tell me how great I look and then offer to wash my baseboards....(and that's not code for anything.  I just need someone to get the dust off my baseboards...and maybe do the ceiling fans when they're done).

Maybe something feminine and really neutral like this Kate Spade....

Or maybe something that SCREAMS "I have arrived! But, now go look at the bride."

Or maybe something with a more tamed down approach, but colorful...

The Road To Shermer: A Tribute to John Hughes

Gallery 1988 has quickly become one of the world’s most talked about art galleries. Opened in 2004 on the famous corner of Melrose and La Brea, by California natives Katie Cromwell and Jensen Karp, the gallery has become the nation's number one destination for pop-culture themed artwork and the premiere venue to witness the rise of emerging artists before they break.  Unfortunately, I am on the other coast and no where near this great place.

A few months ago, they hosted a exhibit at their Venice location that by all ways and means was designed for me.  I make it no secret that I am a HUGE Hughes-Head (now, say that 5 times).  I love all things Shermer, Illinois and anything and everything that came out of that fine fictional location.  I even dig Kevin Smith just a little bit more than most due to sending Jay and Silent Bob on a quest to what I consider a very "holy" place.

I'm so sad to have missed this exhibit, but I can repost some of my favorites that are still posted at their site.  Some of these items are for sale...and who knows, you might find one hanging in my home the next time you stop over.  The link to Gallery 1988 will be posted at the end of the post and I encourage you to look at the John Hughes tribute and some of the other great exhibits they have going on.

Straight Line Designs

Peep Pie = Pure Sugary EVIL!

I'm not a fan of the Peep.  For years I've proclaimed they're good for only one thing....an explosive radioactive death in the microwave.  Until today.  I might have found another thing they're good for.  I'm hoping someone will try this out and let me know how it turns out.

Peep Pie! An Easy Recipe....

18 peeps
1 egg
1 1/2 c. heavy cream
2 T. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 package of mini graham cracker crusts

Place 10 peeps in a large, microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, until peeps fluffy up. Immediately remove and beat in egg, 1/4 c. of cream, and flour. Spoon into crusts, leaving a small amount of the crust visible at the top. Bake for 18-20 minutes, in an oven preheated to 375 degrees until center of pies are set. Remove from heat and cool. Beat together remaining cream and sugar. Pipe whipped cream onto the top of cooled pies. Top with remaining peeps. Makes 6-8 mini pies.

 

I might have to try these as well.  Not to eat....but to give away.

While out for a morning "swim" I came across this site and this really brought back some memories...distant, but memories nonetheless.  Not that I'm able to "get my booze on" much anymore (old age and babies kind sucks the life out of that), but for those of you that are still able to partake, please enjoy.

Well sorry Dion, it's no where near San Jose....but, it looks to be just outside of Ann Arbor, MI (close to one of my favorite places of all time...but we shall save that for another post and another day).  Why Ypsilanti, you ask?  It all started with Tupperware.

I have this old piece of Tupperware that was a hand-me-down from a friend who found it too shameful to have rattling around anymore.  They did not appreciate it, but I love it and use it all the time, mostly for big Asian Chicken Salads and for nachos.  Here is a pic of what I'm talking about - 

The other day I started feeling a bit nostalgic and a bit frustrated with the current leftover food storage devices that clutter my cabinets, and went on the hunt for vintage Tupperware for sale.  Here is one of my finds which I love for other reasons -   BootsNGus on etsy.com!

They have a whole section of upcycled Tupperware items including the above Jello-mold and the below signature mustard yellow containers that seemed to be on everyone's counters in the 70's.

Come on, you have to admit these are just silly-cool.  I want them even though I don't really have a place for them.

Not into the Tupperware?  They also use other items including mason jars, old baskets and cake pans.

I'm going to be on the hunt for old cake pans, copper molds, and such for an outside project.  Seems the guys that lived here before us loved feeding the birds and my yard/trees are riddled with hooks for bird feeders.  This might be an idea for some plant hangers that are inexpensive, rustic and could contain stuff that might survive my "Black Thumb."

So, why Ypsilanti?  Because that's the hometown of this little shop...and it just struck me.  So many creative minds, so many places, and I get to see them all from my kitchen table.  Back to "swimming the web"....

A project in the making. (Leaf Wreath)

Cardboard Safari on Etsy.com is a great little shop with some pretty amazing animal cutouts, but it was this wreath that caught my eye.  I'm thinking this might make for a cool art project.

I might have to go look for a frame today.  I think it will be a good play off the brown and gold stuff I've got going on with all the little white accessories in the great room.  I'll let you know if I make it happen!
